Hi,

I just ordered my hairmax today, and decided to read some of the posts/questions here. this may already have been asked, but i didn't want to read all the posts on this forum :)

My question is: I have a male-pattern baldness, and because it has become so frustrating for me recently, i started shaving my hair. Can i use hairmax and keep shaving my hair, or do i need to grow my hair out first and then start using hairmax?

Your prompt response is appreciated.

Cemil - age 31.

Hi cukuroc -

Thank you for your post.

You could use the HairMax with your head shaved because it is the laser energy that will stimulate hair growth. However, we are not sure how you will be able to tell if the device is working since you will not see any growth when your head is shaved.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

i suppose i could grow my hair out every 2 months or so, see how it looks & if there are any improvements, and if not satisfied, keep on shaving and using my hairmax. I am actually hoping not to go through the frustration of heavy shedding others have experienced at some point after starting to use this device by keeping my head shaved. Maybe i should use it as directed for a year or so and then let my hair grow. By that time, i should really be able to tell if hairmax has helped.

Thanks again for your prompt response.

Hi cukuroc -

You have chosen a novel way to judge your hair loss. However, you will see some shedding of hairs which are below the surface of your scalp within the follicles. As you aware, this shedding in the beginning stages is a sign that the HairMax is beginning to work.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

Hi -- I don't understand. If you shave your head, should the shedding be still apparent? Will you see a worse MPB pattern develop in your "5 o'clock shadow" than what you already have?

Hi adi87tya -

Thank you for your post. If you experience any shedding at the beginning of treatment with the HairMax you will notice the shed hairs even if you shave your head as the hair is shedding from within the scalp. The shed hairs would obviously be shorter than if you had not shaved your head. To judge results with the HairMax after 20 weeks, you have to let your hair grow out because you cannot of course, see hair growth when your head is shaved.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

OK -- I have been using the comb on a shaved head for 3.5 weeks now. I've noticed that my hair is getting thinner (even though I shave my head, I can see the stubble very well because I shave every day). It definitely looks different. I thought that shaving my head would disguise the shedding process, but apparently not (at least not to me). I have a question about this: assuming this is the normal shedding that the laser comb initiates, how long should it last? If I quit now for whatever reason, the hair probably would not grow back the same (i.e. it would be miniaturized), right? Generally, does the laser comb stop or slow down the miniaturization process? If the laser comb fails to slow down the miniaturization for me, does it mean that I've just accelerated my hair loss by pushing hairs into telogen?

Hi adi87tya-

The normal shedding that sometimes occurs at the beginning of treatment should subside by week 8.

It is important to realize that the HairMax DOES NOT cause hair loss. The HairMax exerts its effect by stimulating the hair follicle to shed the fine wispy, miniaturized that are the hallmark of hereditary hair loss, and enables them to grow normal terminal hair. That said, if you stopped treatment with the HairMax your hair would eventually return to where it was before your stopped treatment.

We strongly recommend that you use the HairMax for the full 20 weeks to judge results. The time you have been using the device is not nearly long enough to judge any results. We recommend that you look at the postings of other in the "Shedding" section of the Forum so that you will know what to expect.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.
