  • Hello, just started using the HairMax and I have some questions.

Hey there, I just started using the comb last week and I have a few question about it. I'd like to start by saying I wasn't entirely sure what section of the forum to put this on, so I'm really sorry if I picked the wrong one. I figured since most of this has to do with what to use with it, how to use it and the effects it could have that it'd be appropriate here. But there are some others mixed in as well, so if it should be moved to "other" I'd understand.

I've been using it every other day. I started last Friday, so I use it 4 times a week instead of the recommended three. I don't do this for any reason relating to the effectiveness of the product, as I know in the booklet it says that you won't get any beneficial or negative results from overuse. It's mainly just for scheduling reasons and helps me remember to actually use it, if that makes any sense. If there are any negative effects from this I'd be grateful to hear about it :P.

My first question is whether or not I'm a good candidate for use. I just turned 20 years old and noticed my hair thinning about a year ago today, but it could've been happening even earlier and I just hadn't noticed. I ignored it until just recently, where it has gotten quite a bit worse. My hair has felt very brittle on the top and I have noticed hair thinning all over. My hairline has receded on the left side of my head and is thinning on the right. I do not have any bald spots or anything, but you can see my scalp if I part my hair in certain places. Naturally it's almost impossible to see, but I'm worried it will progress further as time goes on and am hoping to stop it before that happens.

My second question is if there are any shampoos or conditioners I should use that could help. I currently only wash my hair with shampoo every other day as well. I use Nizoral on the days I am shampooing and wash only my body on the days in between, as I heard that it could be a good idea not to load your hair with shampoo and conditioner every day. I started using Nizoral a week or two before the comb because I've had bad dandruff and nothing else worked. I also always used to have red sores on my scalp and around my hair and Nizoral has gotten rid of all of those problems, so I intend to keep using it every other day for the suggested 8 weeks and then drop to 2 times a week unless the dandruff comes back. Is Nizoral bad to use with the hair comb? Should I use something else? Help would be appreciated.

Another question I have is about the effect it appears to be having already. I cut my hair before I first used the comb because I wanted to make sure ie was able to get enough coverage. When I cut my hair it was, like I said, very brittle on the top of my head. Like I said before as well, I've only used the comb 4 times. The hair on the top of my head now feels significantly better. I've also lost a lot of small hairs I had around my hairline, especially the temple area. It's hard to explain for me, but it looked like a patch of thin and small hairs, but now they're completely gone and I'm worried they're not going to come back; even though they were small they still looked better than an uneven hairline. Was this caused by the comb, or more likely just natural? It seems weird that they'd fall out so quickly together. Is it likely they will come back?

Is it possible for the comb to regrow hair around the hairline and especially temple area? I have an uneven hairline because I seem to have lost hair on one side rather than both at the same time and it's a little frustrating. Currently I doubt anyone could see it just from looking at me and it's just what I notice in the mirror, but it's frustrating for me to see personally and I'm worried it will get worse.

I guess to sum it up I am wondering if it is normal for me to be experiencing stuff like this so early into my use of the comb. Is it just coincidence and something else that I've done? Is it normal for my hair to feel healthier the way it is now? It has made me a little bit skeptical and got me thinking that the results may only be on the surface since results so soon should not happen with hair regrowth and strengthening products, from what I have read. I haven't experienced the former yet, but I'm hopeful regardless of my small amounts of skepticism. Is it possible I am just responding well to the comb and the outlook is bright on hair regrowth?

To clear anything up, I am *only* using the HairMax currently for treating my hair loss. I have never used finasteride or minoxidill in any form, or any other product out there. Once I have used the comb for 20 weeks I am considering adding one of those two products if I am unhappy with the HairMax-only results or feel my hair loss has not stopped.

I know it's a long read, thank you to anyone who might offer me a reply and some advice/answers .

    Hairmax lasercomb usage

    Hi Fleet -

Thank you for your very comprehensive post.

To begin with, you are an ideal candidate for the HairMax in that you are just beginning to experience hair loss. The earlier you start treatment the better will be your response. As you pointed out, the recommended usage is 3 times a week, and we have not found any additional benefits of using it more frequently.

As far as using Nizoral with the HairMax, that is OK as it will help your dandruff condition and the redness you are experiencing. You can use other products when using the HairMax and if you are looking for an ideal shampoo and conditioner that can be used ever day or every other day, check out the HairMax Hair Care products at, http://hairmaxestore.com/index.php/products.html.

It is too early to see results with the HairMax after 4 application. You need to use it for at least 8 to 12 weeks to start to judge results. And, you may experience initial shedding which means that the HairMax is beginning to work. The HairMax will not cause hair loss, rather it will cause the fine telogen hairs to fall out and to be replaced with thicker terminal hair. You should see results wherever you are experiencing thin hair or recent hair loss.

In conclusion is, use the HairMax three times a week all over your scalp and be patient in judging results.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

Thanks for the quick reply! Though I'm still curious about my improved hair health after having started using it, I believe it may be attributed to the Nizoral if not this. I haven't really done anything out of the ordinary, so it's got to be that.

I'll hopefully be able to keep this thread updated on progress monthly, with new questions to accompany the results.

If I were to order one of the bundles you linked to, which would you recommend? I assume the HairMax Hair Care bundle are the suggested products? Just asking 'cause I noticed another product below it.

Hello again, just back for a simple question; no real updates yet.

I'm wondering if the HairMax is good for preserving/thickening/regrowing hair on the hairline? That's where I am experiencing the most apparent hair loss and it seems to progress quicker there, so that's what I am ultimately hoping to fix. If I can stop that then there's no doubt I can stop the rest.

Before taking drugs like finasteride I was hoping to visit a dermatologist to be 100% sure it's MPB and not curable any other way, so I had my doctor set up an appointment. The problem is the soonest they could book me in was February of next year, and it could get much worse by then if the comb alone isn't enough. I was hoping for a little advice from you or one of the users here. My doctor offered to prescribe me proscar/propecia himself if I wanted it. Do you think it'd be advisable to just go ahead and start taking it, or will waiting for the dermatologist appointment not be as bad as I am worried it will be?

            Hairmax efficacy

            Hi Fleet -

Thank you for your follow-up post.

The HairMax can work anywhere on your scalp so you should continue to apply the device as directed all over your scalp.

It is up to you if waiting 5 months for an appointment to see a dermatologist is too long. Many doctors prescribe Propecia along with the HairMax, but that is decision you and the doctor will have to decide on. You should probably continue to use the HairMax and then when you see the dermatologist he/she will be able to decide with you if adding a drug to your regimen is advisable.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

Hello, me again back for an update. On my 13th use of the HairMax now and lately I've experienced a bit more hair fallout than before I began use. It is most noticeable when combing my hair in the morning and in the shower. It's been about a month since I started using it. I have curly hair so the hair tends to get trapped there until I comb or shower rather than falling on the floor or my pillows. That makes it a bit more startling :P. I've never had hair come out in volumes like this before, I'm not sure whether it's the comb or the hair loss just progressing, but I thought it was a significant enough occurrence to make an update post regardless of the cause.

I'll update again in another two weeks. Hopefully I can get myself a camera for picture updates, though it's unfortunate I couldn't get one from a starting point. My phone's camera isn't the greatest quality so I don't want to use that.

Thanks for the replies as well, LAS.

                A reply and an update

On 9/4/11, I used the sub-forum "Initial Shedding" to describe my concern about the heavy shedding I was experiencing after two weeks of HMLC use. Now, after almost four weeks, I find the shedding has dramatically been reduced to what I would consider normal. That's the good news. The bad news is my hair looks a lot sparser than it used to look before I started with the HMLC, especially in front where it is obvious. So now I will look for new sprouts and hope.

                  Hairmax and shedding

                  Hi Worried1 -

Thanks for the update. Now that the fine telogen hairs seem to have been shed, you should in coming months see resulting new thicker terminal hair growing in its place.

                  Keep us informed.

We wish you success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.

Just checked out your thread, seems to be the same thing that's going on with me and what LAS is describing. It'd be neat to hear how things go in the following weeks. Hope everything works out for you!

Hey again. I don't wanna spam the forum, so I figure I'll just post all my questions in this thread.

I was wondering if there was any way to tell if my recent hair thinning/fallout is from the comb working or just a progression of my hair loss? I've been using it for a full month now, so I'm not really sure what to think.

Also, I was wondering if you ship the other hair care products (the shampoo/conditioner bundle specifically) offered on the website to Canada, as I read in another thread that you don't ship internationally unless bundled with the comb itself. I know some US companies still ship to Canada despite not supporting international shipping elsewhere. If not, is there a branch here or something I could purchase it from?

                          Hair shedding

                          Hi Fleet -

                          Thank you for your post.

Initial shedding from the HairMax can last up to 8 weeks. That said, you will always see some shedding from the normal hair cycle of growth, shedding, rest, re-growth at various times throughout your course of treatment. This is natural as the HairMax does not affect the normal hair cycle.

We only sell the hair care products in the United States except as we have said, only when sold in conjunction with the HairMax.

We wish you continued success in your use of the HairMax LaserComb.
